New technologies and tools were revealed on Mark Zuckerberg’s Annual F8 developers conference concluded last April 12-13 and was attended by more than 2600 developers held in San Francisco, CA.
The 31 year old, Chief Executive Officer of Facebook announced a 10 year roadmap for the social media that mainly consists of lasers, virtual reality and bots and its goal to develop worldwide connectivity, artificial intelligence, virtual and augmented reality and how it can help bring people together and give everyone a voice.
Check some of the keynotes mentioned on the said event:
Chatbot Messenger Ads. Facebook today announced a major new tool for Messenger called the Messenger Bot Platform by Facebook developed by the products director David Marcus. It is said that brands will be able to pay to send sponsored messages to users via messenger.
One thing Facebook is aware of is that re-engagement messages would become very intrusive especially if you’re being hit with several at once. But Marcus said that “ads will be limited to avoid any potential fall-out and a block button to silence all messages from that particular provider.”
NEXT GEN Virtual Reality. The Facebook Chief also mentioned that he is developing touch controllers to complement virtual reality headsets like the Facebook-owned Oculus Rift and is investigating ways to make VR more appealing in a wearable sense- a Virtual Reality that will look like Ray-ban in 10 years! Pretty awesome!
Facebook Surround 360 Camera. It was also unveiled on the said event a high-end, open source video camera called Facebook Surround 360 camera with 17 lens 3D-VR rig that looks like “Gravitron” but shoots top-notch 360 degree video. This camera looks like a flying saucer and employs a 17 camera array and comes with a web-based software to capture images in 360 degrees. It could automatically render the images through its wide-angle and fish-eye varieties.
He also demonstrated with a drone that any smart camera can be utilized for streaming on Facebook Live and will be able to move directly to their apps. This resolves a variety of technical problems with 360 degree video capture better than anything now in the market.
